Zhytomyr left completely without power after Russian attack on energy infrastructure
The Ukrainian side said Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Zhytomyr and an infrastructure facility in Kovel, Volyn region, on the evening of November 3.

Power has been completely cut in the Ukrainian city of Zhytomyr, and some districts of the region have also been left without electricity. Zhytomyr city council said Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure on the evening of November 3.
In Kovel, Volyn region, Russia also attacked an infrastructure facility, the city's mayor Ihor Chaika said. According to him, most consumers remain without electricity, and the local water utility is switching to backup power sources.
That same evening, a Russian attack in Odesa damaged trade infrastructure. Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said information on the consequences of the attack is being clarified.
On the Russian side, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said five unmanned aerial vehicles flying towards Moscow were destroyed by the air defence systems of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The attacks came as Ukraine's energy system is under strain. On the evening of November 3, tram and trolleybus services in Kyiv were temporarily suspended due to the critical situation in the energy system caused by Russian strikes. Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said Russia had directed three drones at a substation critical to the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.
Zhytomyr is a regional centre located west of Kyiv, while Kovel is an important railway junction in Volyn region in north-western Ukraine. During the war between Russia and Ukraine that began in February 2022, Ukraine's energy infrastructure has repeatedly come under attack.
