Baghaei: Any agreement requires a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated on November 3 that any agreement requires a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Baghaei said: “We are not afraid of diplomacy, and we use dialogue as a tool to protect the interests of the Iranian people and to prevent a further deterioration of the security situation in the region.”

The spokesman added: “Given the experience of past agreements being violated by the United States, we participate in any diplomatic process with the utmost caution and skepticism.”

The statement came as Qatari-mediated exchanges of messages between Iran and the United States continue. Qatar's Foreign Ministry announced on November 3 that Qatari mediators had returned from Tehran to Doha and that talks are continuing. A senior Iranian official said there is no final deadline for exchanging messages with Washington through mediators or for studying the responses.

A US official also said that Qatari mediators expect both the US and Iranian responses to the new proposal within 36 hours.

On the same day, Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that the US response to Iran's rights and demands had not been satisfactory.

Iran had already openly stated earlier, in June 2026, that a ceasefire on the Lebanese front is an integral part of any possible understanding with the United States. Esmaeil Baghaei has served as spokesman of Iran's Foreign Ministry since 2024.
