New train to run on Baku–Tbilisi–Baku route from November 1, raising daily services to four
The new daytime train will depart Baku at 09:10, and seating capacity on the route will rise from 386 to 564.
A new train will begin operating on the Baku–Tbilisi–Baku international passenger route from November 1.
According to Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, this will raise the number of daily services on the route from two to four. The number of passenger seats will increase from 386 to 564, or by about 50 percent.
The new train will depart Baku daily at 09:10 and arrive in Tbilisi at 19:11. In the opposite direction, it will leave Tbilisi at 22:00 and arrive in Baku at 07:57 the next day. The existing train departs Baku at 23:00 and arrives in Tbilisi at 08:41 the next day, and departs Tbilisi at 11:00, arriving in Baku at 20:26.
The new train will have standard, standard+ and business class carriages. Fares in standard class, formerly known as platzkart, start at 36 manats and are up to 30 percent lower than other options.
The minimum one-way standard-class fare to Tbilisi is 54 manats from Baku, 44 manats from Yevlakh, 41 manats from Ganja, 38 manats from Aghstafa and 36 manats from Boyuk Kesik. For comparison, comfort-class tickets in Stadler carriages start at 77.50 manats from Baku to Tbilisi and 56.80 manats from Ganja.
Ticket sales for the new services began on October 2. To buy tickets online, registered users must verify their accounts via MyGov ID. Foreign citizens must enter their country of citizenship and a phone number registered in that country, and confirm it with a one-time code sent by SMS.
The company said the additional services reflect growing demand for international travel and were made possible by lengthy joint preparatory, technical and organisational work by the parties.
Passenger train services between Baku and Tbilisi were suspended in 2020. The resumption of daily passenger trains from May 26, 2026, after a break of about six years, was announced during Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's state visit to Azerbaijan. During that visit, Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili and Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev signed a protocol on putting the upgraded section of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway fully into operation.
