Araghchi: Consultations with Qatari mediator continue, no final result yet

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on 1 November that consultations with the Qatari mediator on the Qatari initiative are continuing and making progress, but no final result has been reached yet.

Araghchi said: “We have not yet reached a final result, because this result depends on the answers the other side gives to our questions.” According to him, consultations with the mediation team are continuing and moving forward.

The minister said the Iranian delegation's visit to Qatar was conducted at the level of deputy foreign minister. The purpose of the visit was to continue consultations with the Qatari mediators, who had also been in Tehran in recent weeks.

Araghchi stressed that negotiations with the American side were not on the agenda of the visit from the start, and that no meeting with the American side is planned during the Iranian delegation's visit to Doha.

“We are making our efforts and hope that the other side will show enough rationality to give priority to diplomacy over other paths,” Araghchi said.

The minister also said that the directives of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to senior military commanders clearly show Iran's determination and strength. According to him, Iran's armed forces have a very clear mission and, thanks to the lessons learned from the two wars, are much stronger than before. “Iran will remain ready for both defence and diplomacy at the same time; the path the Americans choose depends on how rational they are,” Araghchi added.

Qatar has mediated between Tehran and Washington during 2026. In July, Qatar's Foreign Ministry announced that Qatari and Pakistani mediators had held separate meetings in Doha with the US and Iranian delegations. Araghchi's statement came on the same day Qatar's Foreign Ministry condemned an attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker in the Persian Gulf.
