Ulvi Hasanli reportedly placed in a punishment cell at Penitentiary Institution No. 10
Ulvi Hasanli, director of Abzas Media sentenced to 9 years in prison, was placed in a punishment cell on November 2, his wife Rubaba Guliyeva said.
Ulvi Hasanli, the director of Abzas Media who was sentenced to 9 years in prison, has reportedly been placed in a punishment cell (“kars”) at Penitentiary Institution No. 10, where he is being held.
His wife Rubaba Guliyeva reported this on her social media account on November 3. According to Guliyeva, although November 3 was the day set aside for their phone conversation, Hasanli did not call. She said that, according to information she received, her husband was placed in the punishment cell on November 2.
Rubaba Guliyeva wrote: “Today was our call day with Ulvi, and he did not call. According to the information I received, Ulvi was put in the ‘kars’ on November 2. For some time, the management of Penitentiary Institution No. 10 has been threatening Ulvi over articles published by Abzas Media. On the orders of Emin Jafarov, his deputy Kamran Shahsuvarov has repeatedly threatened Ulvi and tried to provoke him.”
Ulvi Hasanli was arrested in November 2023 together with other Abzas Media staff, and they were charged with smuggling. In June 2025, the Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced Hasanli to 9 years in prison.
