Jordan's King Abdullah II: Israel's expansionist ambitions are the greatest threat to regional security

King Abdullah II of Jordan said in statements on November 2 that Israel's expansionist ambitions are the greatest threat to the security of the region and its peoples.

The King said: "There is no way to achieve security and stability in our region without fulfilling the right of the Palestinian people to their land." He added: "Israeli expansionist ambitions are the greatest threat to the security of the region and its peoples."

Abdullah II also addressed the country's water security: "Our water security is a national priority, and we will not allow the thirst of Jordanians to be held hostage in the hands of any party."

On internal security, the King said: "We will not allow the Kharijite terrorists to harm the security and unity of this homeland."

Jordan and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1994. Jordan is one of the most water-scarce countries in the world.

In his address to the UN General Assembly in September, Abdullah II had also stressed his country's commitment to a just peace and its support for the Palestinian people.
