Amnesty International: Bahruz Samadov's detention conditions pose a risk of torture

The international human rights organisation Amnesty International has updated its urgent action campaign on detained researcher and peace activist Bahruz Samadov. The organisation said his detention conditions pose a risk of torture and other ill-treatment and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

The appeal, published on 26 October, states that Samadov's physical and psychological condition is rapidly deteriorating. The organisation noted that he has been denied necessary medical care and held in solitary confinement for two months as a punitive measure.

According to the organisation, Samadov was transferred to the high-security Umbaki Penitentiary Complex in February 2026, where he is held in a dark and cramped cell and is not allowed into the facility's yard. It said he has not been provided with doctor-prescribed medication for more than a month.
