Velayati: Any energy or transit corridor that bypasses Iran will be costly

Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to the Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution for international affairs, declared in a statement on November 6 that any energy or transit corridor bypassing Iran will be costly.

Velayati said: “Iran is a bridge linking the Gulf with Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Sea of Oman, and any energy or transit corridor that bypasses us will be costly.”

He also stressed that “the domino of crises in the region has proven that its security is indivisible.”

Velayati added: “When talking about a new order in West Asia, it must be borne in mind that collective security must be achieved for everyone.”

Ali Akbar Velayati served as Iran's foreign minister from 1981 to 1997 and has for many years held the post of adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution for international affairs.

Earlier, in August 2025, Velayati voiced opposition to the transit route between Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed in Washington with US mediation and planned to pass through Armenia's Syunik (Zangezur) region, and said Iran would block the project.
