Russia's Emergencies Ministry mobile app hit by massive cyberattack, fake information sent

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on the night of 2 November that the ministry's mobile app had been subjected to a massive cyberattack.

According to the ministry, fake information was distributed as a result of the hacking of the mobile app.

A few hours earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force said that the "Air Alert" app, used in the country for air raid warnings, had probably been hacked and that there was no radiation threat in Ukraine. The app's team said outsiders had interfered with the app's operation without authorisation, that push notifications had been switched off and that the app's operation had been temporarily suspended. The team also noted that the app does not store personal data and that there is no threat to users.

The mobile app of Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations is designed to provide citizens with warnings about emergencies and information on rules of conduct in dangerous situations.
