Qatar: Reports that the prime minister said the US and Iran failed to reach an agreement are false

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Qatar's International Media Office declared that reports that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani had said Washington and Tehran failed to reach an agreement were false.

The office said the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister had stressed that Washington and Tehran are continuing to work towards reaching an agreement.

The denial came after the Prime Minister's remarks on the talks between the United States and Iran circulated in various forms during the day. Those reports quoted him as saying that the sides had not yet reached a comprehensive agreement, that instead of trying to solve all problems at once they should focus on the issues they could agree on, and that accepting a good agreement was more sensible than chasing a perfect one.

Qatar's International Media Office is the official body of the country's government responsible for relations with foreign media, and the government states its position on reports about Qatar through this office.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has served as Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister since March 2023. Qatar has for many years been one of the countries mediating between the United States and Iran; in September 2023 a prisoner exchange between the two countries was carried out through Qatari mediation.
