Novaya Gazeta to cease operations on November 9 citing pressure

Novaya Gazeta, one of Russia's independent publications, has announced that it will cease operations from November 9. The editorial board linked the decision to pressure from the Russian authorities and security services.
“On November 9 we will turn off the lights in the home where we have lived for 30 years, shut down the servers and leave. There is no newspaper anymore. The Russian authorities and security services have forced the editorial office to stop working,” the statement said.
The editorial office is being evicted from the building in Moscow where it has worked for 29 years. According to the editors, the system allowing donations from readers was shut down at the same time as the eviction notice. The publication called this a coordinated pressure campaign by state bodies.
